Your postpartum period is a time of rest, reflection and recovery.  We stay with you for at least 2 hours.  You need to void, not be nauseated, nurse baby very well, and you and baby need to be stable before we leave.  We will see you again in 24-48 hours.  Follow up appointments are at 1-2 weeks if needed and a final check at 4-6 weeks.

I strongly encourage at least 10 days of very low activity to allow for proper healing, bonding and establishing breastfeeding.

  • Freedom of movement

Gentle Beginnings Midwife

Your labor, your decisions

We offer high touch, low tech care for your labor.  We help you follow your instinct for labor, pushing and birth.  Partners play a very important role in supporting you during labor and we will help them during that role as part of your team.  I use a Doppler to assess fetal well-being.  Vaginal exams are kept to a minimum.  We will be as hands-on or as hands-off as you need for labor support.  Both Melissa and Tiffany come with vast experience in natural labor relief support.

  • Warmth
  • Better movement
  • Pain relief
  •  Buoyancy can promote more efficient contractions and better oxygenation.  More oxygen=less pain!
  • More oxygen is better for you and baby.

Birth is raw and powerful.  It is an incredible, momentous time in a family's life.  It is a private time.  It is a time of wonder and awe.  Birth is when a woman's strength and determination are at it's greatest.  We believe that birth is a natural, wonderful, fulfilling, empowering process.  We support women that chose to have this experience at home in their own space.  We bring the equipment, supplies and training to help when needed.
